a Le WASA, vaisseau royal suédois de 64 canons, coula dans la rade de Stockholm le jour même du lancement (10 août 1628) à cause d'une violente rafale de vent. Le navire coula par un fond de 35 m. La construction du navire avait commencé en 1625, sous la direction de l'architecte hollandais Henrick Hybertsson.

Bien que quelques bouches à feu et peu d'autres objets aient déjà été récupérés précédemment, c'est seulement en 1956 qu'il fut possible de renflouer la coque à la surface. En 1958, partiellement reconstruit et restauré, il fut placé dans le Musée Wasa de Stockholm. Notre reproduction du Wasa se base sur les excellentes reconstructions graphiques publiées par la Direction du Musée de Stockholm.

The WASA, a royal Swedish vessel with 64 guns sank in the waters around Stockholm on the day it was launched (10 August 1628) as the result of a violent gust of the wind. The ship settled in 35 m of water. Construction on the vessel started in 1625, under the direction of the Dutch architect Henrick Hybertsson. While some guns and a few other objects had been recovered earlier, it was only possible to bring the ship to the surface in 1956. Partially rebuilt and restored, the WASA was installed in the WASA Museum in Stockholm in 1958.
